Imagine a new guy moves in down the street and makes a habit of paying your bills. He picks up the check at the restaurant, covers you on a basket full of groceries, takes all the bills out of your mailbox. Baffled, you ask, "Why do you do this?" His answer? "It's the reason I came. I came to take away your debt."  Envision a neighbor saying that? Incredible. Envision God saying the same? Perhaps even more so. But he did.

God introduced Jesus to the world with this announcement. "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). What does that phrase mean? What is a Lamb of God? Why does he take sin, and what does that mean for Mondays in traffic, Wednesdays with a colicky baby, Thursdays on call, and weekends I spend all alone? That's our question. Every day deserves a chance, we agree. But how might I give it one?
