21 When You're Tired of Being Tired - Come Thirsty (MP3)So you are very proud of the new gloves you just bought. You've just left the store and are walking down the avenue on a chilly morning, ready to wear your new gloves. You plunge your hand into the woolen warmth only to be stopped. You can't get your fingers into the fingers! The five entryways are stitched together. Your fingers won't fill the glove. A closed fist will, but an extended hand won't. So what do you do? No problem, you say to yourself. I'll just live within the palm. You fist your way into the glove and stay there, your fingers folded. The glove fingers flopping. Not exactly what you had in mind but, hey, when it comes to warmth, you can't complain. Folded fingers stay nice and toasty. Frostbite is no concern. Function, however, is. Not easy. Sound appealing to you? Of course not. You wouldn't settle for partial use. You'd walk back in the store. You want extended fingers, stretched and strong. Why? You have a steering wheel to grip. A neighbor's hand to shake. Simply put, you have things to do. So does God. Babies need hugs. Children need goodnight tucks. AIDS orphans need homes. Stressed out executives need hope. God has work to do. And He uses our hands to do it. Do you ever feel floppy fingered? Partially empowered? What can be done? How does one follow God's command to "Be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18)? Scripture's answer to that question stirs such hope. You don't have to live floppy-fingered any more. 1. Accept the Power - Romans 8:6, 9-11 2. Surrender to His Plan - Ephesians 4:25-31 3. Keep at it - Luke 11:13 Date preached: November 9, 2003
