A mother has gone to court to un-adopt her fifteen-year-old son. She adopted him when he was nine, and what she has seen since has convinced her to change her mind. She didn't know he was possibly bipolar. While we can understand the angst of the mother, we aren't surprised by the reaction of the son. He doesn't want to go. He fears the rejection.

Don't we all? Am I overstating the case by saying we all fear 'un-adoption?' If someone really knew me, would they keep me? So we hide the past. And when they do, we back away. Intimacy becomes our enemy. Who wants to risk being un-adopted?  Keep the past a secret.  And keep everybody happy. Impress our teacher with good grades, our neighbors with the clean house, our church with the perfect smile.  And most of all impress God with the ideal life.  Got to keep God happy so he won't choose to un-adopt us.  What if I were to tell you that he never will? That he'll never uncover a rejection-prompting secret of your past? That he doesn't change his mind about his children!
