10 The Fear of Not Mattering - FearLess (MP3)The Godzilla of all fears is the fear that we don’t matter. That’s why it bothers us when a friend forgets to call or the pastor forgets our name or the airline loads us like cattle onto the next flight. They are affirming our deepest trepidation. No one cares because we aren’t worth caring about. That’s why we crave the attention of our spouse or the affirmation of our boss; why we drop names of important people in conversations, wear college rings on our fingers, put silicone in our breasts, flashy hubcaps on our car, grids on our teeth and silk ties on our neck. We spend a lifetime trying to justify our place in this place. Date preached: June 29, 2008 Psalm 8:4 I. The ways we say “I matter!” II. You matter to God. (Mt. 10:29-31) III. It’s time to deal with the fear. (Eph. 2:10) 1. Buy into God’s value system. 2. Be about something bigger than yourself.
