04 Seeing God When Others Don't - Facing Your Giants (MP3)

Listen to a Sample

Imagine Joshua gazing out over the green hills of the Promised Land. It took him and the Hebrews forty years to get this far. He looks down on the high walled cities of Jericho. What hope do Bedouin tribes have against trained armies? His people are untrained. He is untested. But then Joshua looks up. He "..lifted his eyes.." (Josh 5:13). The message comes as a cool breeze in the desert. "You may feel alone, Joshua... but you're not. You may think it's up to you...but it's not. People may call you their commander, but you aren't. You are never alone."

Do you think God has left you to fight your foes single handedly? Read the words of David, written long after his battle with the mighty Philistine:  "I look behind me and you're there, then up ahead and you're there, too...your reassuring presence, coming and going." (Ps. 139:5 MSG). Don't we need this reminder?
I.  If you see the giant without seeing God:
    1. You'll run and hide.
    2. You'll fight the wrong fight.
    3. You'll do something stupid.
    4. David saw what no one else saw.

II. Acknowledge the armies of God.
    Psalm 91:11

III. Declare the defeat of the devil.
     2 Kings 6:16
