11 When You're Just Too Tired - Facing Your Giants (MP3)The other day I saw a woman pulling a dog with a leash. The day was hot, brutally. The dog had stopped, totally. He'd plopped, belly-down, in wet grass, exchanging a blistering street for a cool lawn. We know the feeling. We've reached the "plopping point" ourselves. Unlike the dog, however, we don't flop in the grass. We plop down into enemy territory. We compromise convictions, hurt innocent people, and end up disappointing the ones we love. At least, that's what David did. The demands of leadership left him so worn out that he got out of God's will. He sold out his convictions until he lost out on his joy, his followers and friends. When you're just too tired, learn a lesson from David's demise. I. David wore out.- I Samuel 27:1 a. He failed to pray. b. He neglected good advice. c. He ignored God's promise. II. David got out.- Proverbs 14:12-13 III. David sold out.- I Samuel 27:5 IV. David lost out.- I Samuel 29:4 V. Next time you lose the will to go on: a. Be quick to pray. b. Seek healthy council. c. Rest in God's promise. Date preached: July 17, 2005
